TTTech celebrates 20 years of innovation

The company officially entered business in 1998 with only a handful of employees and a technology to believe in. 20 years later, we have quite a story to tell: our valued partnerships and innovative products have paved the way to becoming a successful company. We have selected a few of these milestones and invite you to take a look back with us.

The worldwide TTTech workforce has passed the 550 employees mark in 2017 and is continuously growing in both the technical and commercial departments. When including all of our contractors, more than 1,400 experts in their fields are working to achieve electronic robustness for a more electric and connected world.

TTTech expands premises in Vienna significantly

TTTech started off at Schoenbrunner Strasse 7 with two rented offices in 1998. As the first companies showed interest, TTTech had to expand its premises step by step. TTTech now has 8 locations in Vienna, amounting to a total of about 12,000 m² office space.

The big bang for TTTech

TTTech Computertechnik GmbH is established on December 18, 1997, in Vienna, Austria by Prof. Dr. Hermann Kopetz, Georg Kopetz and Stefan Poledna. The company's technological background is based on intensive research at the Vienna University of Technology in time-triggered technology since 1979.

The TTPEvaluation Cluster, equipped with the very first silicon implementation of a TTP communication controller, is launched and offers a complete and ready-to-run system providing quick and easy hands-on experience with the time-triggered communication protocol TTP.

TTTech starts to introduce its technology

TTTech toured around the world the TTPEvaluation Cluster, to introduce our technology to different customers and organisations. In 1999 we got the chance to present our technology in the context of the Information Society Technology (IST) prize awarded by the European Commission, that we are able to take back to Vienna.

Honeywell and TTTech announce their partnership for applications with TTTech technology in the aerospace industry. TTTech's Time-Triggered Protocol (TTP) will be the base communications architecture for a number of Honeywell's modular aerospace control products.

Audi and TTTech announce technical partnership

Audi

TTTech and Audi announce a technical partnership at the Geneva Motor Show, aiming to introduce a time-triggered electronic architecture for the automotive mass market. This marks the beginning of a cooperation that has resulted in innovative products with cutting-edge technology.

Nord-Micro selects TTTech to supply the cabin pressure control system on the Airbus A380

Hamilton Sundstrand's Nord-Micro selects TTTech to supply the internal communication system of the Airbus A380 cabin pressure control system. Airbus has chosen Nord-Micro's solution to supply this subsystem for the Airbus A380. TTP technology provides the foundation for a fully distributed cabin pressure control system architecture for the Airbus A380.

Thales Rail Signalling Solutions starts the first commercial production of TTTech technology

TTTech and the Thales Rail Signalling Solutions division cooperated on the design of electronic interlocking systems. The LockTrac 6131 ELEKTRA has been in commercial production since 2002 and is now widely utilized in Europe. The electronic interlocking system has been installed by the Austrian Railways and the Swiss Federal Railways.

TTTech presents the third generation TTPController

The third generation TTPController AS8202NF offers superior reliability and is qualified for the full temperature range required for automotive applications. Data transfer rates of 25 Mbit/s with MII and up to 5 Mbit/s with MFM/Manchester are supported. The AS8202NF is the first TTPController to support both MFM and Manchester coding. Manchester coding is important for DC-free data transmission, which allows the use of transformers in the data stream.

Foundation of TTTech Automotive GmbH

TTAutomotive

TTTech establishes the TTTech Automotive GmbH to channel the automotive business and create a solid basis for further developing the technology for the automotive market. The subsidiary specializes in automotive networking solutions.

From autonomous robots to automated driving

TTTech technology is featured in the DARPA Grand Challenge Race: two autonomous robotic vehicles finish the 132-mile course of the race on second and third position. The robot vehicles are outstanding complex high-tech machines using "drive-by-wire" technology, in which on-board computers control all relevant vehicle movements. TTTech products provide the basis for the control systems.

TTTech supports the development of control systems for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner

Hamilton Sundstrand Corporation selects TTTech to support the development of of a TTP based data communication platform for electric and environmental control systems on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. TTP is able to support applications that must effectively monitor operational consistency and detect errors in order to provide the required level of reliability in Hamilton Sundstrand's common electronic architecture.

Investments in expansion

Technology partner Audi acquires a minority participation in TTTech and strategic financial investor aeris Capital AG invests 20 million Euros. This investment aims to further internationalize TTTech's business.

TTC 200 becomes first SIL 3 controller on the market

Audi

TTControl's ECU TTC 200 is certified according to SIL 2 and SIL 3, becoming the first SIL 3 controller on the market.

TTTech announces scalable real-time Ethernet platform

TTEthernet, a new scalable real-time Ethernet platform for control systems deployable for a variety of business applications, is presented. TTEthernet is a highly deterministic version of Ethernet and is used today for example as the core of the “nervous system” of the NASA Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle (MPCV), supporting a mixed criticality architecture using all three traffic classes (best-effort, rate-constrained, time-triggered), of TTEthernet.

TTTech Automotive provides FlexRay-based tools and services for topology consulting and architecture optimization measures as well as implementation, integration and testing of new embedded software components for the Audi A8.

TTTech and NASA sign Space Act Agreement

NASA

In 2009, NASA and TTTech signed a “Space Act Agreement” and officially became partners. NASA is always in need for cutting-edge technology and therefore seeks partnerships in the private sector to encourage innovation and advance space exploration.

A new product family of highly effective control panels

TTControl launches the first two members of the Vision product family. These intelligent monitors are setting new standards with respect to maximum resolution, programmability with CoDeSys® 3.x, and user-friendliness, for example through the ability to display PDF® documents.

TTTech's TTP selected by Rockwell Collins for the CSeries aircraft program

CSeries

TTTech is selected by Rockwell Collins to provide hardware and software products based on the Time-Triggered Protocol TTP for the Bombardier CSeries aircraft's flight control computer system. With TTP, modular certification and system reuse on different aircraft platforms is supported.

TTTech presents the TTXDataLogger

The TTXDataLogger, TTTech's high-performance, open and scalable tool for vehicle testing, motivates Audi to act as a development partner. Through its innovative concept, the TTXDataLogger sets new standards for securing and troubleshooting in the automobile.

Casagrande selects TTControl

Casagrande

Casagrande selects TTControl to provide electronic control systems and operator interfaces for the new XP generation of drilling machines. For the control and visualization system of their new XP generation of hydraulic crawler drills, the Italian-based company Casagrande chose TTControl as technology partner. TTControl's HY-TTC 90 allowed Casagrande to meet all safety requirements of the drilling machine as this robust control unit is compliant with the ISO/EN 13849 standard on functional safety and fulfills PL d.

TTControl introduces a new product family HY-TTC 500

With HY-TTC 500, TTControl introduces a new product family of powerful control units for high-end applications. These controllers were designed to satisfy upcoming needs for a wide range of high-end applications like construction and agricultural machines.

Audi and TTTech at CES in Las Vegas

Audi and TTTech showcase key-enabling technologies for the piloted car at the CES in Las Vegas. Audi also presented a prototype of the zFAS platform ECU that was co-developed by TTTech for the first time to the public.

NASA Orion test flight

The first NASA Orion test flight with TTTech's Deterministic Ethernet solution on board is completed successfully on December 5. TTTech developed the nervous system for NASA's Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle (MPCV). It relies on a TTEthernet-based avionics network that performed flawlessly during this test flight.

TTTech teams up with Cisco at the openBerlin Innovation Center to accelerate the adoption of Deterministic Ethernet for solutions for the Industrial IoT. The goal is to accelerate the adoption of the key enabling communication technology "Deterministic Ethernet" for advanced solutions for Industry 4.0 / the Industrial Internet of Things (IoT) in the manufacturing and transportation industries.

Shareholders and new investors support growth strategy

TTTech's new strategic partners Infineon and GE, together with the existing shareholders, support the company's growth strategy in automotive and Industrial IoT with a 50 million euro investment. TTTech uses this investment to accelerate growth with its safety certified solutions in its core markets as well as to enable new value propositions and global support for its customers in the Industrial Internet of Things and autonomous driving car markets.

TTTech launches Deterministic Ethernet switch Hermes

TTTech announces the launch of its Deterministic Ethernet switch, named Hermes, for application development and evaluation of in-vehicle network architectures in the field of automotive and heavy machinery. With this intelligent device, customers can evaluate multiple technical standards supported by the NXP SJA1105T chip, including AVB, TSN and Time-Triggered Ethernet. The switch also integrates a powerful CPU running AUTOSAR 4.2.1 and provides digital and analog I/Os plus CAN, FlexRay and Ethernet interfaces.

Smart distributed control system for Vestas

Vestas approached us to develop a smart distributed control system (DCS) that would help to lower the material cost of turbines and reduce operating costs for utilities. TTTech proposed a High Availability DCS based on Deterministic Ethernet as the solution to address the customers needs. The use of this solution resulted in an overall reduction in components and system complexity.

Renesas Electronics and TTTech collaborate on new ADAS ECU development platform

Renesas Electronics Corporation and TTTech announce their agreement on collaborating on the development of a new automotive platform solution for driver assistance systems (ADAS). The automotive platform solution will integrate Renesas' automotive control microcontroller (MCU), the RH850/P1x, and high-performance R-Car system-on-chips (SoCs) with TTTech's MotionWise, a software platform to enable highly complex automotive solutions including highly automated driving.

TSN gains momentum

This year, NI announces a collaboration with the Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC) and industry leaders Bosch Rexroth, Cisco, Intel, KUKA, Schneider Electric and TTTech to develop the world's first Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) testbed. The testbed has turned out to be a huge success, proving TSN's value. The same year, leading automation and information technology suppliers announce that they will support OPC UA TSN for unified Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) communication to the controller Level.

This marks the first investment in the context of a strategic cooperation of KUKA and TTTech to accelerate the implementation of Industry 4.0 solutions.

Nerve, a product platform targeted at providing edge connectivity, computing and control for the manufacturing market, is introduced at the trade fair SPS IPC Drives in Nuremberg, Germany. Nerve includes a dedicated cloud-based service to remotely manage machine software, provide off-site service access and analyze accumulated machine data.

Next generation data logging for the era of autonomous driving

TTTech presents its new testing tools product line “Power Family” for the first time during Automotive Testing Expo in Stuttgart, Germany. The Power Family is a future-proof solution for vehicle testing and validation of automotive networks that fulfills all requirements for logging modern networking architectures in vehicles. The product line consists of the data logger PM-200 and several extensions that can be individually combined to fit any use case.

TTTech at launch of New Audi A8

Audi A8

TTTech attends the exclusive launch of the A8 during Audi's brand event show in Barcelona. With the new A8, Audi introduced the first series-production car capable of automated driving level 3 and offering the first electro-mechanical active suspension system. Our modular platform for automated driving is a vital part of the all new Audi A8 computer architecture with its mastermind zFAS. TTTech presented its software platform MotionWise that is part of zFAS earlier this year.

Samsung Electronics and TTTech announce strategic partnership to deliver next generation of autonomous and safety technology to automakers

Samsung

Samsung Electronics announces a strategic partnership with TTTech. Along with this partnership, Samsung will also make a €75 million strategic investment in TTTech as the first investment from its recently-announced Samsung Automotive Innovation Fund (SAIF), and highlights the company's commitment to bringing safer cars to the road. A modular hardware platform, powered by TTTech's MotionWise software, will be the first product of the cooperation.

TTTech markets TSN technology with partners

TTTech contributes its TSN expertise to partner products. Cisco enhanced its IE 4000 Switch with TSN functionality and becomes the first major switch vendor to release a TSN product. TTTech is collaborating with Intel on an FPGA-based TSN solution which combines a high-performant Intel SoC FPGA platform with best-in-class TSN Ethernet IP from TTTech, along with embedded software and drivers.
