Austin, TX; June 2016: A selection of the world’s leading industrial automation companies came together for the first ever TSN Ethernet plugfest. The event was a massive success, and marked another huge step towards creating a single standard for industrial communication and ending the fieldbus wars that have fragmented the market for decades. TTTech was on hand with our Hermes TSN switch, setting up an open, standard 1Gbit Ethernet network over which different vendors could synchronize their TSN enabled devices. The IEEE 802.1AS and 802.1Qbv features in the Hermes TSN switch were used to achieve interoperability with a wide range of different implementations from the many participants in Austin.

The plugfest was organized as part of the Industrial Internet Consortium TSN testbed, which aims to demonstrate IEEE TSN standards in action, by showing real-time control and synchronization between devices from different vendors. TTTech will be playing a key role in the testbed, providing our TSN switch products and TSN scheduling engine as well as offering the benefit of nearly 20 years’ experience in setting up time-scheduled networks. Other IIC TSN testbed members include Bosch Rexroth, GE, National Instruments, Schneider Electric, Cisco, Ixia, Innovasic, Intel, WindRiver, B&R and KUKA.
