As the industrial environment is becoming more and more complex, the pressure is on to reduce time-to-market for industrial products and extend the lifecycle of equipment, e.g., industrial PCs, and there is a growing need for certification support in functional safety and security. In larger corporations, it can be viable to create specialized departments to design, engineer, and certify software and hardware for industrial applications in-house. Medium-sized or smaller companies often do not find this practicable – for cost reasons, or due to the wide range of different expertise required to cover all use cases. Industrial safety engineering

Industrial safety engineering focuses on the identification, analysis, and mitigation of risks within industrial systems, ensuring the safety, reliability, and compliance of machinery, equipment, and processes. It encompasses the development and application of engineering methods, standards, and best practices to protect people, assets, and the environment from hazards that may arise during the lifecycle of industrial operations.

Our competences

We provide customers with products and solutions that are developed according to the highest standards in safety and security. In addition, we offer consulting services to industrial companies that are looking to comply with their industry standards. We have already achieved certification for ISO 9001, IEC 62443, and Functional Safety Management (FSM) according to IEC 61508 and are currently in the process of certification according to ISO 27001. Therefore, we are familiar with the process and the requirements, and understand the ins and outs of the preparation, procedure, and implementation required.

TTTECH Industrial is the long-term partner for safety control and safe communication of Vestas, one of the largest manufacturers of wind turbines worldwide. We designed a distributed control system (DCS) for them that serves as the “brain” connecting and controlling the electronics in the wind turbine and has been deployed more than 10,000 times.

Software engineering 

Software engineering applies engineering principles to the design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance of software systems. It combines technical expertise with structured methodologies to ensure that software products are reliable, efficient, scalable, and secure.

An aspect of software development that can no longer be ignored is cybersecurity. The Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) is an important EU regulation for products with digital elements in this area. It came into effect in 2024 and will be applied from 2027 onwards. The CRA has a wide scope and thus makes it difficult to ensure compliance. A solution certified according to the industrial cybersecurity standards IEC 62443 is seen as the best option, as it provides guidelines for safe and secure development practices and ensuring security across the product lifecycle. 

 

Our competences

TTTECH Industrial has developed Nerve, an IIoT platform for machine builders. It consists of a node software that runs on devices at the edge, as well as a management system that runs in the cloud or on premise. TTTECH Industrial has undergone this certification and been certified according to IEC 62443-4-1 by TÜV Austria, ensuring secure development processes across all our projects. This minimizes defects detected after the standard operating procedures (SOP) and reduces costs for bug fixing.
