TTTech, the leading supplier of solutions in the field of time-triggered technologies, today announced its TTEthernet switch and end system demonstrator has been implemented on Altera Corporation's PCI Express Development Kit, Stratix II GX Edition. TTEthernet is a scalable, open real-time Ethernet platform used for safety-related applications primarily in transportation industries and industrial automation. The implementation of TTEthernet on Altera's Stratix II GX FPGAs enables quick evaluation of deterministic Ethernet capability and design of complex networked solutions.

TTTech's TTEthernet (Time-Triggered Ethernet) is able to scale from software-based real-time Ethernet control solutions to demanding redundant networked applications. TTEthernet is compatible with existing Ethernet standards, which allow its use with other Ethernet-based networks in heterogeneous or legacy systems.

The current TTEthernet product family supports 100 Mbit/s and 1 Gbit/s standard network components, as well as copper and fiber optics physical networks.

"We see a huge opportunity in TTEthernet technology for scalable and deterministic networking applications compatible with standard Ethernet hardware," said Stefan Poledna, CEO of TTTech. "Implanting proven time-triggered principles on top of Ethernet enables a new set of capabilities for the design of embedded controls and open Internet or LAN systems within the same network."

"Altera provides a range of complete solutions to accelerate design cycles for FPGAs that use high-speed Ethernet ports," said Karl-Heinz Gatterer, European military and aerospace marketing manager, Altera. "Leveraging Altera's Stratix II GX FPGAs, TTEthernet is able to provide Ethernet-based systems that are flexible, interoperable and scalable."

Altera's PCI Express Development Kit, Stratix II GX Edition delivers a complete PCI Express-based development solution, which is interoperable with industry-standard PCI Express platforms, facilitating the development of custom PCI Express applications.
