LynxOS Hard Real-Time Operating System and TTP Databus Products Leverage Open Standard APIs to Reduce Time-to- Market and Ease Development-to-Deployment Risk

San Jose, California, September 20, 2007 – In another demonstration of its commitment to giving developers the tools they need to create safety-critical systems for the avionics industry, LynuxWorks, Inc., a world leader in embedded software, today announced it is working with TTTech Computertechnik AG, the leading supplier of solutions in the field of time-triggered technologies. The companies’ flagship products, LynuxWorks’ LynxOS and TTTech’s TTP (Time-Triggered Protocol), provide a complementary environment in which developers can reduce time to market and risk in migration through the use of open standards-based APIs. As a combination, the products will assist developers in the migration of prototype safety-critical avionics applications to full airborne deployment.

LynxOS is a real-time operating system (RTOS) that supports open standards for developers of safety-critical avionics systems. By employing open standards and providing the highest available Linux support and full POSIX compliance, LynxOS offers developers a platform to smoothly migrate laboratory applications to safety-critical airborne applications. TTTech’s TTP bus, is a bi-directional, partitioned and fault-tolerant databus that offers deterministic performance up to 25 mbps. By employing similar APIs, both the products directly address the stability and standards compliance expectations of today’s avionics developers.

"Working together, LynuxWorks and TTTech are bringing about a quantum leap in aircraft databus design and integration," said Joe Wlad, director of project management, LynuxWorks. "TTTech’s TTP and our LynxOS RTOS provide avionics developers a prototyping platform on which to build high-speed, deterministic applications for ultimate deployment on commercial and military aircraft platforms that run on our FAA-accepted LynxOS-178 operating system. By allowing them to more easily move from the lab environment to deployment, LynuxWorks and TTTech directly help avionics developers get their applications off the ground."

TTTech's low-cost protocol TTP is the first high-speed, time-triggered fieldbus selected for commercial and military aircraft such as the Boeing 787, Airbus A380 and Lockheed Martin F-16. TTP systems can be built using TTTech's mature design tools deployed in key production programs. Available embedded COTS software and hardware components are compliant to DO-254/DO-178B level A and can be reconfigured for reuse in different distributed real-time systems.

"The combination of our TTP products with the highly reliable LynxOS platform provides avionics developers easy, proven integration for their systems," said Mirko Jakovljevic, aerospace marketing manager at TTTech. "Both technologies have proven themselves time and again in real-life flight situations, and our partnership has evolved from our customers, who demand a complete solution from the industry’s leading vendors."

The LynxOS RTOS represents 18 years of innovation by LynuxWorks, with industry-leader conformance to open standards including Linux, POSIX and UNIX. Each LynxOS component is designed for hard, real-time performance, meaning it must respond, without fail, within a given period of time. This predictable response is insured even under heavy stress loads. LynxOS also exhibits true linear scalability so that it remains deterministic even as the tasks it performs increase.

Additionally, TTTech’s TTP can be used to migrate applications to LynuxWorks’ proven DO-178B Level A compliant RTOS, LynxOS-178. LynxOS-178 is the first and only time- and space-partitioned FAA-accepted Reusable Software Component (RSC), providing an additional level of safety and reliability found only in LynuxWorks’ products.
