TTTech, the leading supplier of dependable networking solutions based on time-triggered technology and modular safety platforms, is nominated for the embedded AWARD at the embedded world for its innovative, safety certifiable switch core board for real-time Ethernet communication. The switch core board has built-in mechanisms for traffic policing and fault isolation and is developed according to IEC 61508 SIL 2, aerospace RTCA DO-178 and DO-254 standards. It can be used to develop customized Ethernet switches and is the centerpiece of TTTech’s new deterministic Ethernet switch line.

The switch core board supports 6 x Gigabit Ethernet ports and 19 x 100 Mbit/s ports as well as several Ethernet standards. These standards include IEEE standards (IEEE 802.3, IEEE 802.1D and IEEE 802.1Q), ARINC 664 part 7 supporting rate-constrained mechanisms and the Time-Triggered SAE AS6802 standard for synchronous communication. Deploying the switch core board, TTTech has developed a certifiable 24 port Ethernet switch with 19” rack form factor designed for mission-critical and safety-related industrial control applications with high availability and fail-operational requirements. The certifiable 24 port switch supports 6 x Gigabit Ethernet ports and 18 x 100 Mbit/s ports and is developed according to the IEC 61508 SIL 2 standard.

As recognized by the jury of the embedded AWARD, the switch core board but also the 19” rack switch represent a considerable technical innovation for various reasons: By using chip-level technologies for real-time self-diagnosis of the switching function, highest reliability and fail-safe operation are achieved. The switch transforms possible arbitrary failure modes in the fail-silent failure mode, allowing the building of fail-operational networks for mission-critical and safety-critical distributed applications with multiple redundant communication channels. Each of those channels guarantees bandwidth, timing and partitioning for critical traffic and ensures fail-silent behavior in case of hardware failures. Combined with the deterministic message processing capabilities, true partitioning and isolation of multiple critical traffic flows on the network are achieved. Implementation of the entire switching functionality and management functions according to stringent development processes ensure that both, the switch core board and the 19” rack switch, are safety certifiable.

“We are proud to be nominated at the embedded AWARD for our safety certifiable switch core board, the centerpiece of our new deterministic Ethernet switch line. This nomination serves as further proof for the innovative and future-oriented character of our developments,” says Astrit Ademaj, Product Manager Industrial at TTTech.

TTTech will be at the embedded world at booth # 4-401, showcasing solutions for industrial as well as automotive segments. The embedded AWARD will be presented on February 25, the first day of the exhibition.
