#IMPACT25: Insights from a NASA astronaut on space travel and the Gateway program

#IMPACT25 - Interview with NASA astronaut

As onboard computing power increases and the distance from Earth becomes greater, spacecraft will become even more autonomous. This shift has a significant impact on the skillsets required from astronauts. What remains unchanged, however, are the most important skills: Teamwork and international collaboration!

We had the opportunity of speaking to one of the most senior NASA astronauts, Stanley G. Love, PhD, during his visit to Vienna. Stan is not only an experienced astronaut, but also a scientist and senior advisor to NASA on the HMI (Human-Machine Interface) between the Lunar Gateway and visiting astronauts. He gave us his expert insights on the Gateway program and shared his first-hand experiences of mission and technical training, as well as working in space.

The interview highlights topics such as:

  • What it feels like to perform a spacewalk
  • How astronauts prepare for space travel
  • The technical aspects of astronaut training and missions
  • The Gateway program and its purpose
  • What innovations can be found on Gateway
  • How Gateway’s operation will differ to that of the ISS
  • The new distribution of tasks between space agencies and industry

What is #IMPACT25?

In 2023, TTTech celebrated its 25th anniversary. We could have used this opportunity to look back at our past and reflect on how far we have come. But we have always been a forward-looking company. While we take pride in our past achievements, our focus is the future.

As Peter Drucker said: “The best way to predict the future is to create it”. Taking a proactive stance towards the future, we ask: How will we at TTTech, with our team, our innovations, and solutions create a positive impact in the 25 years to come? How will we live and work together in a society that is becoming increasingly automated and digitalized? What will our business models be? How will we work together as a team? What kind of world do we want to leave to the next generation? The future is in our DNA – we are not passengers, we are in the driver’s seat – we create IMPACT.

Therefore, we have chosen #IMPACT25 as the guiding theme for our 25th-anniversary celebration. Over the course of next year, we have many exciting initiatives lined up, each one dedicated to embodying the spirit of IMPACT. These initiatives will drive innovation, create market momentum, show people's impact, advocate for positive change, foster collaboration, and unite our incredible team. You will hear from our founders, our customers, our employees, and learn from leading industry experts that are shaping technology megatrends like connectivity, automation, safety & security and sustainability. Together they will tell the past, present, and future story of TTTech to resonate with your minds and hearts and inspire positive action.

Watch this space as it grows and transforms – just like TTTech.
