NASA's Orion MPCV Spacecraft With TTTech’s Deterministic Ethernet Onboard Powered On for the First Time

NASA's first-ever deep space craft, Orion MPCV, has been powered on for the first time, marking a major milestone in the final year of preparations for first flight in 2014. Orion MPCV's avionics system was installed on the crew module and powered up for a series of systems tests at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida last week. 

NASA announced on its website that preliminary data indicate Orion MPCV's vehicle management computer, as well as its innovative power and data distribution system -- which use state-of-the-art networking capabilities -- performed as expected.

TTTech's Deterministic Ethernet solution (TTEthernet) is one of the advanced technologies deployed in Orion MPCV. TTEthernet facilitates the design of mixed criticality integrated control systems for a variety of distributed applications like avionics. Key TTEthernet operation principles ensure its future use with other Ethernet-based networks in heterogeneous or legacy systems.
