The TTEProtocol Layer is a software-based implementation of the TTEthernet protocol for a broad range of Ethernet applications, such as real-time control applications, data acquisition or multimedia applications.
It provides start-up, clock synchronization, deterministic message transport, configuration, and error handling as services to the host application.
Communication systems using standard Ethernet can be updated into a real-time Ethernet network by adding the TTEProtocol Layer to the system. Non-critical (best-effort) and critical (time-triggered) data traffic can be integrated into one network. A key feature of this product is the compatibility of its Application Programming Interface (API) with the API of hardware-based TTEthernet nodes. Thus an easy upgrade from software-based to hardware-based TTEthernet is possible.
The software-based end system is a flexible and scalable system that is based on COTS hardware.
It is interoperable with standard IEEE 802.3 solutions. Furthermore it features constant communication latencies, a relatively small and bounded jitter, and a low communication overhead for protocol control frames.
