Reliable Software & Architecture

The key objective of the RISE project was to support the development of embedded reactive software to increase the effectiveness critical automotive onboard systems. This was realized by developing concepts for the design of embedded reactive software and by integrating a toolset which covered analysis, design, and development of embedded systems. The technology used for RISE has a proven success track in avionics. It is used for safety-critical systems with hard real time requirements.

Within the RISE program a prototype of TTPSCADElink was developed. TTPSCADElink is a system that integrates TTTech's TTPTools and the SCADE Suite from Esterel Technologies. It provides developers with a comprehensive tool chain for distributed safety-critical embedded systems.

nextTTA

The nextTTA project was intended to develop the next level of a time-triggered architecture. One of the main reasons for this EC-subsidized project was to demonstrate the emulation of CAN on top of a time-triggered architecture. It proved that the two worlds can be combined and a migration path can be provided from current CAN-based applications to time-triggered systems.

Smart centralized bus guardians were used to enhance dependability and to reduce system cost. A line driver prototype chip with a bandwidth of 10 Mbit/s for in-car use was developed to fulfill the request for higher data throughput. As part of the nextTTA project, an autonomous steering prototype was developed and integrated into an Audi S8. The steering system was a striking demonstration of the technology's feasibility and its availability for deployment in commercial automotive production.
